Hair removal has been practiced in almost all human cultures. The methods used to remove hair have varied in different times and regions, but today the most common methods include waxing, lasers, electrolysis.
Hair Removal Lasers
Hair removal lasers have been in use since 1997 and have been approved for "permanent hair reduction" in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration. "Permanent" hair reduction is defined as the long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing after a treatment regime. Some patients will need touch-up treatments, especially on large areas, after the initial set of 3-8 treatments. It has also been observed that some people seem to be non-responders or may have regrowth after treatment is completed.
Laser hair removal has become extremely popular because of its speed and efficacy, and the choice and availability of different laser technology.
Melanin is considered the primary chromophore for all hair removal lasers currently on the market. Melanin occurs naturally in the skin (it gives skin and hair its color). There are two types of melanin in hair: eumelanin (which gives hair brown or black color) and pheomelanin (which gives hair blonde or red color). Because of the selective absorption of photons of laser light, black or brown hair is most responsive to treatment while blond and red are less responsive to treatment. Light skin and dark hair are an ideal combination, but new lasers are now able to target dark black hair even in patients with dark skin.

Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal which was invented over 100 years ago in the United States. During electrolysis, a needle is inserted into a hair follicle and an electrical pulse is sent through the needle. If this particular hair follicle is in the active growth stage at the time of treatment, it will probably not grow again.
Since many factors influence hair growth, you will need to return for several electrolysis visits. The total number of sessions needed to remove hair permanently from a particular area will vary from person to person. Most clients return once a week or every other week, as necessary. The unwanted hair will be gone forever once the series of treatments have been completed However treatments will not prevent new hair follicles from forming and growing, therefore touch up treatments are often necessary. Each treatment lasts between 15 minutes and one hour.
